Tomorrow's Researchers

The Stice lab fluctuates from between 10 and 15 people — comprised of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduates and a few technicians and visiting scientist. Over the years Stice has mentored more than 85 graduate students, 65+ undergraduates and 22 postdoctoral-scholars.

We are committed to inspiring students to reach their potential

The Stice Lab gives students a revealing, first-hand look at cutting edge biotechnology

"The research opportunities that UGA offers are unlike those at any other university.  The sense I got at other universities is that undergraduate research either wasn't a big focus, or it was something that didn't happen until senior year.  I jumped into a lab the first week of freshman year."

Catherine "Cali"  Callaway, Goldwater Scholar recipient and Stice alumna, is currently enrolled in Weill Cornell Medicine.

Morgane Golan:

Morgane is a PhD Candidate and ARCS Scholar, working in the Stice lab, whose research focuses on improving the accessibility of extracellular vesicle (EV) therapies. Through a patient-centered approach, she is developing systems to enhance EV storage and preservation, as well as clinical routes of delivery. Morgane also conducts discipline-based education research (DBER) in the Regenerative Bioscience major for undergraduates, under the direction of RBC faculty, Dr. Franklin West.

Md. Marzan Sarkar:

PhD Student at The University of Georgia. Co-mentor's Steven Stice and Lohitash Karumbaiah.  Current research: Extracellular Vesicle Based Drug Development for Glioblastoma Multiform (Brain Tumor).

Avery Kanemasu:

Pre-Medicine/Pre-Medical Studies undergraduate.  Optimize protocols, cultured cells, and isolated extracellular vesicles for the treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Director of members, CURE at UGA.

Leah McCarthy:

Undergraduate student in the Stice lab. Research interest, Neurodegenerative diseases including brain injury and stroke.

Emma Lavon Mitchell:

Undergraduate student in the Stice lab. Research interest, Neurodegenerative diseases including brain injury and stroke.

Riya Ratkalkar:

Undergraduate student in the Stice lab. Research interest, Neurodegenerative diseases including brain injury and stroke. Internship at Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.  Founder of Bracelets for a Cause.
